Model Year 2003 marks the introduction of the 9-3 Sport Saloon (or Sport Sedan
as its called in a number of other markets). A number of significant departures
from traditional SAAB thinking have occurred with the release of this model. The
most significant of these is that with the demise of the old 9-3, the SAAB range
carries no Hatchback model, all cars are either Saloon or Estate (Sedan or
Wagon).

Also in line with this change is a completely new and never before seen engine,
a modern all Aluminium unit apparently partially developed by Lotus, although
the cylinder head is all SAABs own design.

A brief rundown of the other most significant changes are below:

-All aluminium petrol engines (B207's) replace the existing
Alloy-head/Iron-Block units (B205's).

-A Six speed gearbox will be available for the first time in the Aero model.

-The option of SAABs new Sentronic paddle shift semi-automatic system.

-Built-in Bluetooth wireless networking for communication.

-Yellow on White and Black instrument pointers now replaced with more
conventional White on White and Black, a previous SAAB sticking point.

-Information Display moved to the base of the windscreen, far more in line with
the drivers field of vision.

-ReAxs rear suspension gives a small amount of rear wheel steer, increasing
stability and response, especially at high speed.

-Optional Corner Brake Control (CBC) that reduces the tendancy of the car to
pull to one side when braking hard on uneven or broken surfaces is now
available.

-Traction Control System (TCS) now standard across the entire range, even the
basic Linear model.

-Introduction of the all new Trionic-8 engine management system.

-Three basic trim levels are available on the cars release, Linear, Arc and
Vector, powered either by the 150Bhp 1.8t (B207E, actually a 2.0 engine with
lower boost pressure), the 175Bhp 2.0t (B207L, Technically identical to the 1.8t
but using higher boost pressure), or the D223L 2.2 125Bhp Diesel Unit from the
existing 9-3 range. The high output Aero model will be released in February 2003
powered by the 210Bhp B207R.

Our own 9-3 Vector 2.0t was purchased as soon as SAAB were accepting orders,
having driven the vehicle we are confident in saying that dynamically this is
the best SAAB ever made, however room for improvement exists as always, keep
your eyes on the site, as new tuning parts and accessories will be coming
soon...
